At Beyond Retro, our heart beats “Repair, reuse, recycle”, and we’re always aim to feature cool local talent that aligns with our values. Recently, we got the chance to ask Waxiu Shehu, owner of the Malmö based studio234+, questions on his business, passions and style!

1. Tell us about your business and how it started

Studio234+  started during covid, I already had my own brand called ‘’strng wmn’’ but I had to rethink due to the pandemic. So I came up with the idea to start a studio/atelier. We offer tailoring, repairing, dry cleaning, laundry service and custom made designs. I opened up my first studio in the city we’re I lived in 2020 (Hässleholm) and recently opened up my studio in Malmö we’re I live right now.
We want to contribute to a more sustainable use of clothing, this is a goal we work towards in our day to day work.

2. What’s the best thing about your job

Definitely the creative part of it and the happiness I see in peoples faces when I fix their garments.

We value taking care of the garments we already have and encourage people to shop secondhand or vintage.  That’s why we are offering a discount for items that are bought secondhand when customers hand items in for adjustments.

3. What is the most common thing people need help with right now?

A lot of repairing and amendments, and a fun trend at the moment customers are asking us to make jeans into long denim skirts.

4. How do you make your garments life last longer

By taking care of them from washing them right to repairing. Buy clothing that’s made to last and avoid buying a trend.

5. Describe your personal style in 3 words

Freestyle, classic &  with a touch of Washiu

6. What is the best 2hand garment you own

I have a green faded GANT rough weather trenchcoat. I’ve had it for 8 years now and always will, it’s irreplaceable.

7. Which piece of vintage item are you on the hunt for

Actually none at the moment, I have what I need.
