Vintage Spotlight #87

Posted on June 01 2012

A quick Google search for the Millworth Converting Corporation seems to suggest that their legacy lies not in the fantastic prints they produced but in their contribution to the development of copyright law in fashion and the mass production of printed fabric. Their high-profile court case of 1960 was regularly cited in subsequent decades by defendants and plaintiffs alike arguing their right to reproduce or copyright art in the public domain. We'd rather remember them for the beautiful fabrics they created throughout the '50s and '60s, many of which, if you can still find them, are quite valuable today. Today's Vintage Spotlight, a 3/4 length skirt with a border print named "The Hacienda" is a prime example of their work. In a vivid colour-way and distinct illustrative style, the scene depicts a Mexican estate crowded with characters as busy as the design itself. Whoever's lucky enough to nab this before the rest won't have to work as hard to wear it though - this little beauty is all about having fun. Pick it up at Beyond Retro Brick Lane for £38, and check out the rest of our skirts online.
