Vintage Spotlight #63

Posted on September 01 2011

Our pick for today’s Vintage Spotlight is totally taking advantage of this lovely weather we’ve finally been blessed with.  Although it’s not necessarily sweltering outside, it makes a pleasant end to what’s been a pretty disappointing summer.  And this sudden spell of sunshine has had an effect on our staff too.  Our lovely in-house model Dani from Brick Lane is getting her pins back out in this brilliant bandeau dress.  Bright '80s prints and neon shades clash perfectly together (another sign that bold colours are going nowhere next season) and the '50s inspired shape makes her the perfect pin-up.  Get it fast before someone else nabs it, available at Brick Lane.

Bandeau Dress | £30 | Available at our Brick Lane store

Yesterday we went mad for plaid and our love for that classic linear print has only deepened after discovering this 1960s shirt online. Featuring a shape and colourway that's become ubiquitous with men's clothing in recent years, what sets this apart from the myriad copy-cats out there is the fact that it's an original Pendleton, a company whose woollen mills took the drab workwear of west cost America and transformed them into the vividly coloured and intricately patterned casual shirts we know today. By the 1920s, the woollen shirt produced by the mills was so popular that it assumed the name The Pendleton, which in turn was adopted by a little-known band called The Pendletones, who later went on to re-name themselves The Beach Boys. This is a classic piece of Americana that proves why plaid is and will always be cool.
