Top Picks for your New Autumn Wardrobe

Posted on September 19 2019

Christian Girl Autumn, Pumpkin Spiced Latte Season, Countdown to Christmas, Sad Girl Fall …WHATEVER you call it, it’s here.

It being Autumn 2019. The days are shorter and darker, you definitely can’t justify leaving the house without a jacket anymore and the cravings for cosy nights in and copious amounts of biscuits are thrife.

With the start of a new season often comes the start of a new fashion journey; wondering who you will be for the next couple of months, what it is you want to say to the world when getting dressed every morning, and so on.

This Autumn we urge you to be kinder to the planet (and your wallet) and shop vintage

Second Hand September is a movement across social media, where individuals are sharing their second hand and vintage finds, proving that items don’t have to be brand new to feel brand new. Below, we have our top picks for your new (to you) season wardrobe.

What To Wear This Autumn?

Velvet Office-Wear

Tommy Hilfiger’s latest collaboration with Zendaya saw models walk the runway in 1970s inspired numbers. The clothes featured nipped-in waists, flared hems, faux snakeskin and - most notably - lush velvet. Lots and lots of lush velvet, blazers, trousers, shirts and more.

Velvet numbers are a must-have for this upcoming season, for more than their aesthetic purposes. Obviously beautifully, velvet items have the power to make the most ordinary outfits and give them that so sought after level of glamour.  Velvet is also warm, a definite bonus in the upcoming months.

We would recommend styling your velvet, much like Tommy and Zendaya, with a 1970s flair. Think: velvet shirts with peter-pan collars, velvet flares, and velvet evening bags.

Velvet Evening Blazer.

Tartan Blazers

A wise woman once said ‘As If!’ as she pushed a teenage boy attempting courtship away from her. That wise woman was Cher Horowitz, and those words would not have held as much depth had she not had said them whilst wearing a tartan blazer.

The tartan blazer is a staple this autumn, the epitome of ‘I have my life together’.  We recommend you style yours with a turtleneck underneath to adapt you for the harsh winter to come.

Leather Everything

This season we are lusting over leather. Particularly: leather coats.

Look to Joseph’s Autumn/Winter ready-to-wear collection for inspiration, which saw models decked out in head-to-toe leather. Leather coats, leather shirts, leather trousers, leather shoes, leather life.

There is a strong 1970’s flavour to this seasons trend, so we recommend trying out a pair of leather flares, or perhaps a leather trench?

Statement Florals

Florals? For Autumn? Genuinely groundbreaking!

To lighten up this seasons palettes, which features a lot of blacks and browns, we suggest florals! Florals are the perfect accent to an otherwise muted palette, providing the perfect contrast in your Autumn wardrobe.

We expect to see a lot of longer length florals dresses this season, pair yours with knee high boots to stay ahead of the curve.

Neutral Beige

My baby lives in shades of beige, beige eyes, and jazz, and attitude. - Lana Del Rey.

The correct lyrics are ‘blue’, but we felt beige more relevant.

To rewrite an old classic, beige is the new black. This season beige is the neutral of choice. Looks good with everything, and to be found on just about any item of clothing your heart desires!

To wear this seasons trend, invest in a staple winter coat, in your new favourite colour: beige.

Cable-Knit Jumpers

This Autumn is all about pieces that are versatile and sturdy; pieces that can be dressed up and down, pieces that can be the main event as well as pieces that can be an every-day-basics. No one item personifies this more than the cable-knit jumper.

Take, for example, Japanese designer Junya Watanbe’s ready-to-wear collection. Junya Watanbe’s models embodied this trend as they walked down the runway in their floral dresses, bomber jackets, and cable-knit jumpers.

The designers clothed seemed to be templates of deconstructed vintage, so what more of a push do you need than to shop vintage this Autumn?

The favourite Autumn staple of it-girls worldwide, get your cable-knit now.
