What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

Your friends all live so close by! And Hobgoblin Burgers.. and the beautiful harbourside in the summer.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My Grandmother's wedding dress -the lace is so stiff that you can barely move but it’s so beautiful and also has a matching veil. Or.. my Chanel sunglasses that I try and wear at every given moment (even in the rain).

What’s your current earworm?

Freelance - Toro y Moi

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

Frantically picking up my floordrobe which I have just produced trying to get dressed for a night out!

Top vintage shopping tip?

PATTERNS! You can never clash enough patterns, they will always go together in my opinion! They become so wrong that they’re right and I love it!

What's the best thing about living in Bristol?

Bristol has a way of encouraging you to become your truly authentic self. It's the most colourful of cities and it proudly endorses diversity.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

50s Ferragamo shoes I found in an amazing couture vintage shop in Sienna.

Current earworm?

Watching You Without Me - Kate Bush

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

Watching live music somewhere in Stokes Croft or catching a movie at the pictures.

Top vintage shopping tip?

That garment you pick up and think 'I wish I could pull this kind of thing off' - buy it! You will surprise yourself and it will be fun and empowering.

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

For me, it’s definitely the music scene. There’s always something great going on and the community is so inclusive and full of brilliant personalities and talent.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My paisley shirt. It’s super comfy and casual, and I still absolutely love it after years of it being a staple in my wardrobe.

What’s your current earworm?

Julia Jacklin - Body

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

Usually at a gig or at Mother’s Ruin. More often than not, it’s a bit of both.

Top vintage shopping tip?

Don’t be afraid to try something different or a bit out of your comfort zone. You never know what might work for you.

Name: Calum

Age: 35

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

It’s cheesy as hell to say this, but the people. It’s practically impossible to walk anywhere without getting into a conversation with someone, regardless if you know them or not.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

The jacket in the picture above.

What’s your current earworm?

If there’s a better album this year than Snapped Ankles, I’ll eat my hat.

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

I DJ every Friday at a party dive bar called The Mother’s Ruin, so I guess I’m gonna have to say that.

Top vintage shopping tip?

Try before you buy, too many times I’ve ended up thinking something will fit and ended up looking like I’m wearing Homer Simpson’s smock.

Name: Katie

Age: 27

Position: Store Manager

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

Everything you could ever possibly need or want is an incredibly convenient stroll away!

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My Great Great Grandmother’s black velvet opera cape. I don’t think I’ll ever wear it out of the house because it’s just too precious to me but there’s nothing stopping me donning it on an evening for a sassy swan about the living room.

What’s your current earworm?

Air - Playground Love

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

I’d love to say out on the town but in truth, I’d probably be found under covers ordering in enough food to feed a family of 5.. I’ll leave the partying to the rest of the team.

Top vintage shopping tip?

Knowing and sticking to your favourite colour palette makes outfit building an absolute breeze.

Name: Nick

Age: 22

Position: Part-time Sales Associate

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

The sense of community - the smaller-city vibe seems to mean people are generally friendlier & support each other more than in the capital.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My Dad's old leather jacket - he got it in Florence in the '70s and wore it to death - and despite it having largely fallen apart long ago, I'm continuing to do so!

What’s your current earworm?

Nilüfer Yanya - In Your Head

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

Most likely at a gig, and then the Mothers Ruin.

Top vintage shopping tip?

If you've got time, go through the rails twice - I often only realise I want an item after I've picked up something else it'll then go well with.

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

There are so many things I love about Bristol, but I would probably say that it has the best qualities of both a large city and a smaller town.  There are a lot of exciting things happening, but it still feels peaceful, easy to escape into green spaces, and you will often bump into a friendly face!

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

I have a coat from the 80s that is knitted, with beautiful birds on and so many comfy layers of material.  It feels just like wearing a sleeping bag with sleeves. I have worn it so much and it has shielded me from all kinds of weather and can be used as a blanket when in need.  It’s just perfect!

What’s your current earworm?

Sunday Morning by the Velvet Underground

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

Often my mates that live near me have a boardgames night, so we all make fun of each other and hug the dog, who is an extremely loveable Labrador named Phoebe.

Top vintage shopping tip?

I think it’s good to know your measurements!  Sizes have changed a lot, especially with older clothes, and you can’t always trust what it says on the label.  But when you’ve found something that fits it’s definitely worth the effort!

Name: James

Age: 29

Position: Part-time Sales Associate

What's the best thing about living in Bristol?

My favourite things are probably the fact that each area has such a distinct character and it helps that they're all just a leisurely walking distance apart. Everyone saunters about!

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My shearling jacket has done an alright job at keeping me alive this winter.

What's your current earworm?

BADBADNOTGOOD - Can't Leave the Night

Khruangbin - Maria También

Both these songs take equal turns in holding my mind hostage.

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

I'm not really a creature of habit but you'd lose less money betting on me being in The Gallimaufry on Gloucester Road or doing the two-step on some cramped dancefloor nearby.

Top vintage shopping tip?

This has no doubt already been mentioned but go into an actual store and try the clothes on first. You'll be surprised how much cuts/sizes have differed over the decades. Hopefully pleasantly surprised... and hopefully in our store.

Bristol is such a melting bucket of so many subcultures yet everyone will welcome you with open arms and a smile wherever you go.

Mc Boing - Dancefloor

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

You can find me dressed like a cowgirl princess dancing in Stokes Croft to Charlie XCX  like a crazy gal.

Top vintage shopping tip?

Your neck is half the size of your waist, so just wrap those kick-ass trousies around your neck to see if they fit if you wanna be lazy and not try them on.

Name: Julian

What’s the best thing about living in Bristol?

It’s the perfect balance of bustling multicultural cosmopolitan city meets quintessential British countryside with a fantastic creative industry to boot.

Favourite item of vintage clothing?

My early 80’s Bronx leather jacket from Texas as I’m usually too skinny for them but this one fits perfect and it’s nice and shiny.

What’s your current earworm?

Drexciya - Flying Fish

Where can you be found on a Friday night?

It would’ve been the legendary Surrey Vaults but that’s closed down now so most likely at home avoiding the Friday rush with some Japanese food.

Top vintage shopping tip?

Make sure you get to the store early so you don’t miss out on one-off items and get friendly with the staff so you know when the next delivery is hehe.
