Coffee & Culture: New exhibition at Beyond Retro Dalston by artist Phil Goss

Posted on January 28 2013

We delighted to announce the first Coffee & Culture exhibition of 2013 at the Beyond Retro Café in Dalston! Introducing Café Drawings by local artist, Phil Goss, which is a collection of abstract illustrations that are inspired by everyday surroundings. Phil Goss is an illustrator currently studying at the Royal College of Art. His work starts with drawing from life, particularly with his recent body of work which explores the contemporary world of café culture. He looks at how people behave in these social spaces, and he's been inspired by The Beyond Retro Café in Dalston as it gives Phil the opportunity to show the work in the same space as it was made in or thought up. The café space itself becomes a character in his illustrated world. The colour-saturated drawings celebrate the everyday things we surround ourselves with and these works have a playful exploration of how space, perspective and texture can be depicted. His style flips between narrative illustration and abstract mark making. Phil's work will be on display inside the Beyond Retro Café for one month from Tuesday 5th February. If you want your work exhibited then get in touch! Email info@beyondretro.com for more information.
