Bands Bands Bands!
Our Brick Lane store was feeling a little musically neglected after attentions turned so completely to Brighton and the Beyond Days Weekender last weekend, so we're putting together a little gigging schedule to see us through summer in the East End. We're far from done, but we couldn't wait to share with you some of the amazing acts we've got coming up, so have a look and a listen below! All gigs are free entry and take place in the stylish environs of our original vintage wares; come down to Brick Lane, have a dance, pick up an outfit and a new favourite band...
If you make music and would like to take to the Beyond Retro stage, send an email to music@beyondretro.com and we'll give you a listen!
The Sheikhs
Saturday 28th May, 3PM Previously performing as Young Electrics, The Sheikhs have just finished building their own studio and are kick-starting their UK tour at Beyond Retro this Saturday. Here they are playing under their original moniker for Balcony TV at the Great Escape Festival last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wPYiH1ckQU____________________
Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux
Saturday 4th June, 3PM London-based Eighteen Nightmares at the Lux released their second EP at the end of last year and have recently come to the end of a bi-monthly residency at the Notting Hill Arts Club's Death Disco. This is them playing fan-favourite 'Chick, Chase Kick' at the Water Rats a couple of years back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sRmg1_vLoQ&feature=player_detailpage____________________
Laura Hocking
Saturday 11th June, 3PM Laura Hocking sings 'folk-tinted freak-pop', playing live with intricate string arrangements to deliver lyrically-meaningful songs that are like 'biting into a cream cake and finding a razor blade'. Born in the north, educated in the middle and now living in the south, she sings songs about love, stalking, female wrestling champions, forcible tattooing, theft, hypochondria and the notion that the best revenge is an unflattering portrait. Here she is performing 'Oh La, Lolita' in April 2009. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XocHRjfdlQE&feature=player_detailpage____________________
Thomas Tantrum
Saturday 2nd July, 3PM Simply put, Thomas Tantrum are one of my favourite bands of all time and we're very lucky to be putting them on at Beyond Retro. Having returned from supporting Glasvegas on tour earlier this month, the band will be embarking on their own headline tour in June - click here for a list of dates and watch the video for upcoming single 'Hot Hot Summer' below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I08k6trvzQw&feature=player_detailpage____________________
