Beyond Retro, a leading retailer in the vintage and retro fashion industry is looking for a Head of Marketing and Press to lead the strategic development, execution and management for brand development, multi-channel campaigns, public relations and press.

Beyond Retro is a leading vintage and retro clothing chain with stores in the United Kingdom, Sweden and online with its Head Office in Ottawa, Canada. Beyond Retro is dedicated to bringing high quality and fantastic vintage garments/accessories to its fashion forward, savvy customers. Our aim is to be a leader in building a global vintage community – not just a place to shop, but a place of knowledge and expertise about vintage fashion history, fabric and trends from many different eras.

Based at the company’s UK Head Office, N1, the Head of Marketing & Press will be responsible for managing the Beyond Retro brand with day to day responsibilities for the UK and online stores. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Beyond Retro who is based in London, this role will work closely with the Online Channel Marketing Coordinator and the eCommerce Business Manager and all Store Managers located in the UK.

The Head of Marketing & Press will be responsible for:

Strategy & Planning

  • Define and implement annual multi-channel marketing strategy and quarterly planning updates for all Marketing and Press activity and campaigns . This includes establishing the budget, and where applicable analysis of outcomes and ROI assessment.

Brand and Campaign Development

  • Produce fresh and innovative retail multi-channel marketing campaigns in order to strengthen the brand and drive traffic to all brick and mortar and online properties maximizing Press, blog and social media exposure. You will be overseeing the implementation of the annual marketing plan including new store openings, in-store and online events and key brand and sponsorship initiatives. This includes executing some campaigns yourself as well as working with store managers and the online channel team to oversee the execution of campaigns as applicable.

Public Relations and Press

  • Develop the strategy and day to day execution of our content for interacting, managing and liaison with Press across multiple channels. This will involve liaising with Press in the UK and overseas, overseeing the management of the blogger network, securing suitable product placement, drafting and editing statements and press releases and responding to media enquiries, developing and managing media relationships, monitoring and reporting on competitor activity and liaising with the Product and Archives departments to obtain their support across these activities. This will include the management of the overall PR calendar.

  • Designing, writing content and liaising with content publishers including content for Beyond Retro blogs, magazines, newspapers, trade publications, newsletters, Look Books, bloggers, brochures and website content in cooperation with the Online Marketing Coordinator and other colleagues who are subject matter experts such as the Product and Retail Team.

  • Managing the Press Loans department located at our Cheshire Street store and growing our long-term relationship with the Stylist community.

Oversight of Online Marketing

  • Management oversight of the Online Marketing Coordinator who is responsible for driving traffic to our online property, increasing and improving retention marketing through database growth and social networks.

Budget Control, Performance Analysis and Reporting

  • Assess, reconcile, plan costs and advise on annual budgets. Analyse and review past performance of programs and promotions including press analysis for team meetings and monthly reporting requirements


The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate proven experience in retail marketing and have a strong link with fashion, music and culture and of the youth market in general. You will have proven planning and execution skills with the confidence to take on your own projects and help to deliver results through marketing activities. In addition, you will easily demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Creative, self-motivated, well organised and capable of planning and directing to meet objectives

  • Flexible and able to work well under pressure

  • Communicate well both orally and in writing with a wide range of people

  • Solid negotiation skills to interact with vendors and suppliers

  • Experience working with the Press

  • Experience developing social media strategy for a fashion/retail brand


The Press and Marketing Manager is required to travel regularly to other Beyond Retro locations.
