  • Hallowe'en In-Store at Beyond Retro

In case it wasn't already obvious, we are shaking with a mixture of fear and excitement at the approach of Hallowe'en. So far we're half way through our online dress-up guide, our stores have been transformed into the Mexican Day Of The Dead Festival and we've got a whole load of jewellery and decorations to celebrate it, including some extremely exclusive Michael Jackson dolls. We've also got lots of activities and events coming up next week to help you get in the mood for October 31st. You can keep an eye out for all Hallowe'en-related news here or on Facebook. In the meantime, step into one of our stores for some serious outfit inspiration; we've been putting together a fancy dress guide which is now brimming with more ghoulish get-ups than you can shake a stick at. We've brought some of these ideas to life with our displays in Soho...
  • Get The Look | The Mermaid Parade

If you’ve been in-store recently you’ll no doubt have notice the fabulous work our Visual Merchandising team have done in recreating the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, so now it’s time to get the look online. The feel for our guide is one that mixes classic nautical pieces with standout sequinned items in pastel shades for a seaside-meets-mermaid lagoon show-stopping look on the beach, during the day and at night.

Our beach look mixes different vintage eras, with this '90s navy one piece swimsuit with white waistband and gold button detail, an ‘80s pastel green bolero and a ‘60s-inspired floral swim hat. Complete your look with this large ‘80s straw bag, the perfect summer accessory.

Our men’s beach look is kept simple with a clear palette of blues; the striped vest gives a gentle nod to Victorian swimwear and the shorts are perfect in keeping with our theme.

For a spectacular outfit in keeping with the parade’s theme of underwater mermaids and sea creatures, our day look is one that’ll have the locals wondering whether you’re part of the day’s events. Match the colours on display by wearing this cute novelty fish-print cut-off vest, high enough to reveal the beautiful gold button detailing of this high-waisted blue and white striped skirt. Throw on this green and blue summer print sequined jacket as the parade draws to a close, and accessorize with this large striped sun hat in coral and sage green along with this sailing boat print shoulder bag to really stand out! Our day outfit for the guys strays slightly from the usual mix of blues, with the introduction of a strong red zip with contrasting white and navy shoulder ‘70s polo shirt. Paired with some smart blue shorts, this ensemble is perfect for a full-on seaside nautical look.

This sumptuous evening gown will truly dazzle the crowd at the parade’s after party. The cut off shoulder and floor length style adds a sexy feel to this beautiful eye catching number. Let the moon reflect and illuminate the hundreds of beautiful sequins that cover this dress, as you sip on cocktails and recall the day’s events on the sun deck of your Coney Island host’s holiday home. Accessorize with a matching aqua turban and clutch. Our men’s evening look mixes casual with military uniform - a smart navy shirt paired with vintage sailor trousers with anchor buttons, topped off by this amazing ‘50s vintage cardigan with white stripes and button detail.

  • Get The Festival Look | Festival Survival

We end our Get The Look! Festival series on a more practical note; not dressing for a particular festival or musical genre, this last look is all about survival! As we all know, sunshine, blue skies and 28 degree heat can't always be guaranteed and this survival look will prepare you for torrential rain, galling winds and anything we know the unpredictable British weather can - and certainly will - throw at you this summer! We've all seen those mud slides at Glastonbury and even though some may find going for a muddy swim refreshing, we know that the vast majority of you will want to stay well away! So here’s how to combat that dreaded forecast and still look your best... Fellas - this 1990s blue reversible rain jacket will definitely keep you dry. It's also not too heavy so you won’t have any problem tying it around your waist once the sun comes out.  Light blue on one side and dark on the other, you can swap and change this number throughout the festival so you're always looking fresh. Wear this woolen yellow, green and blue striped jumper to keep you warm when hanging outside your tent discussing which bands played best and finish your look with some acid wash jeans tucked into a pair of wellies to keep you looking on trend.

Ladies - a rain Mac is the must-have survival item and this bright red 90s gem has a great shape, being knee-length to keep you well protected.  This'll certainly make you stand out from the crowd (and hopefully rain clouds) so if you ever get lost, fret not, your friends will have no problem finding you in a second! Sweatshirts are also an essential item - as the temperature drops, throw this superb black and white tiger print on for warmth; the jeweled eyes are hypnotizing, don’t you think?! Remember to pack a pair of thick tights for added warmth - we love this black pair with white zip detail. And finally, this leopard print stick umbrella will make your survival body armour complete!
